Changing Academic Culture One Institution at a Time
From a higher education leadership perspective, diversity, equity and inclusion must be approached as core to the operations of any institution. Just as we would expect an organizational leader to bring strong project and fiscal management skills, the current academic or research workplace and living/learning environment demands a high-level of cultural intelligence, and equitable and inclusive practice.
Also, People Matter. By focusing on people, and relationships, and building bridges across constituency groups, effective leaders can move their institutions from siloed, decentralized cultures to cohesive communities that foster authenticity and belonging, connectedness simultaneously. Focusing on people will allow an institution-wide cultural shift that reinforces diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging and justice (DEIJB) as mission-critical to any and all institutions.
